BMW i7 or Mercedes EQS: Which Electric Chauffeur Car Should You Book?

Rear three-quarter view of a black BMW i7

These are our two flagship electric saloons, and each seats up to three passengers with two large suitcases and two carry-ons. The Mercedes EQS is built around a calm, filtered cabin. The BMW i7 gives more control to whoever sits in the back.

What do the two cars have in common?

Both are fully electric, so your journey produces no tailpipe emissions, and both have Burmester sound. Each carries up to three passengers with two large suitcases and two carry-ons. Bottled water and phone charging come as standard, and Wi-Fi is available on request. Either one suits an airport transfer, a business meeting or an evening out, and we plant a tree for every ride whichever you pick.

Which one has more range?

The Mercedes EQS, with up to 400 miles against up to 370 for the BMW i7. Within London neither number matters much. On a long day out of town, the EQS gives you the most margin.

Which is quieter inside?

Both are quiet because both are electric. The EQS adds an acoustic comfort package: laminated glass, extra insulation, better seals and wind deflectors. Its HEPA filter removes fine particles and its carbon coating cuts odours. If you want to sleep after a long flight or take a call without raising your voice, book the EQS.

Which is better for working in the back?

The i7. Panels in the rear doors control the climate, media, blinds and seat settings, so you can change things without asking the chauffeur. It also responds to voice and gesture control. For a roadshow or a day of back-to-back meetings it works well as a mobile office.

How do they ride on London streets?

The i7 has adaptive air suspension that takes the edge off cobbles and speed humps, and xDrive all-wheel drive keeps it steady in bad weather. The EQS has expansive legroom and seats designed for long journeys.

So which should I book?

  • Book the Mercedes EQS for an airport transfer after a long flight, quiet time between meetings, a guest who wants calm, or a long day out of London.
  • Book the BMW i7 for an executive roadshow, an embassy or red-carpet arrival, or a VIP airport pick-up where the passenger wants the controls.
  • With more than three people or more than two large cases, book the Mercedes EQV, which seats six with six large suitcases.
